PDF2XL CLI is an application that can be used to extract data tables from PDF documents and save them to Excel (XLS) format. It's wrapped in a user-friendly interface that adopts an older Microsoft Office look.
Following a fast installation procedure, you're greeted by a clean and intuitive window, where you can begin by opening a PDF document. However, you should know that conversions will not be successful unless you have Microsoft Excel installed. Page scan be easily navigated by clicking their thumbnails on the left side.
In addition to Excel, it's possible to convert files to Word, PowerPoint, OpenOffice, CSV or HTML format, or to simply copy all contents to the clipboard. If you don't wish to process all pages, you can set a page range in order to leave out the unwanted parts.
As far as viewing options are concerned, you can zoom in and out, rotate pages to left or right, use an integrated search tool to quickly locate text, change the colors of tables and fields, as well as display element identification makers.
Conversions settings can be configured for each output profile. For instance, when it comes to Excel, you can ask PDF2XL CLI to write table names, keep empty rows and text attributes, enable add-ins, create a minimum font size, keep leading zeros, or merge cells to match the layout. File metadata (author, comments) can be edited as well.
Multiple interface languages are supported so you can select the preferred one from the options panel. What's more, you can enable heuristics by allowing the tool to find vertical and horizontal dividers, modify default settings for data formats (e.g. text and numeric columns), and so on.
Conversion operations were carried out fast in our tests while PDF2XL CLI remained light on system resources consumption. Thanks to its intuitive interface and practical options, it should come in handy to all users looking to turn PDF files into Excel and other types of documents.
