SID Video Cutter & Splitter is an application with a pretty self-explanatory name - it lets you cut common video files (e.g. MPG, WMV, AVI, MOV). But you can also convert them to other formats, such as AVI, MP4 and WMV. The tool can also prepare items for iPod, PSP and Palm, among other devices.
The interface of the program is plain and easy to work with. Video clips can be imported via the file browser or "drag and drop". Unfortunately, you cannot process multiple items or selections from the same video simultaneously.
So, you can preview clips in a built-in media player and trim them by marking the start and end position (the selection can be reset). If you prefer the default settings, then you can immediately proceed with the trimming procedure by specifying the output format and directory.
Advanced users can tinker with the audio and video settings in regard to the codec, bit rate, channel mode, size, aspect ratio and frame rate. Settings can be restored to default. Additionally, you can set SID Video Cutter & Splitter to automatically power off the computer when the task is done.
The video processing program uses a moderate-to-high amount of system resources to complete a task briefly. It is very responsive and delivers a fair image and sound quality after conversion. There's also a help file that you can look into. SID Video Cutter & Splitter did not cause us any trouble during our testing. On the downside, you cannot specify the number of CPU cores to be used or set the tool to open the output directory after encoding. No recent updates have been made.
