WMV Converter is an application with a pretty self-explanatory title - it allows you to encode media files to the WMV format, but also to ASF. It can be easily handled by novices.

The interface of the program is based on a standard window in which you can import video clips by using the file browser only, because the "drag and drop" method is not supported. Batch processing is not allowed.

So, all you have to do is specify the output destination and file type, in order to proceed with the encoding job.

But you can also customize audio and video preferences when it comes to the resolution, resize mode, frame rate and bit rate. Settings can be restored to their default values at any time. Furthermore, you can preview clips in a built-in media player and trim them by marking the start and end position.

The video encoding program runs on a moderate amount of system resources, has a good response time, quickly finishes a task and manages to preserve a good image and sound quality in the output videos. We haven't come across any major issues during our tests. There's also a well-drawn help file with snapshots that you can check out.

On the other hand, the interface needs some major improvements, since it's outdated. Plus, you cannot configure the program's behavior (e.g. enable WMV Converter to automatically turn off the computer after conversion) and it cannot work without codecs.
